White Thorns
If you suffer or have suffered from hypertension or a coronary problem, surely you will have heard about this medicinal plant, and in recent years the hawthorn has taken a leading role in herbalists for its important health properties and the proliferation of problems  coronaries of our society.
The white hawthorn Crataegus monogyma is also known as “hawthorn hawthorn”, “majuelo” or “shepherd cherry tree”, it is a shrub that can grow up to 9 meters, so sometimes it looks more like a tree.
It is native to Europe, North Africa and West Asia.  It is characterized by white flowers that grow in clusters and give rise to a fruit in the form of red berries.  Its aroma is similar to linden, and its berries (similar to acerola) become a delicacy for birds.
Hawthorn contains flavonoids, hyperosides, polyphenols, pectins, triterpenic acids, minerals, and tannins, among other less relevant compounds.  Due to its variety of nutrients, hawthorn becomes a key ingredient for many industrial drugs aimed at combating hypertension, stress or coronary problems.  Above all, we can highlight its cardiovascular action, since it acts as a hypotensive (reducing blood pressure) and improving blood circulation thanks to the fact that it helps the heart pump blood more strongly.
Its activity is slow but it continues over time, which means that the tension does not drop immediately with the first dose, but after an appropriate treatment with white hawthorn, the tension will be constantly reduced, which is more  healthier than more sudden drops in tension.
It also has a remarkable antispasmodic action, which acts by dilating the coronary blood vessels (of the heart), so that the white hawthorn are indicated in cases of angina pectoris and as a preventive treatment of myocardial infarction, arrhythmias and heart failure.  Several studies with animals have also reflected the hypothermic power of hawthorn, that is, that lowers body temperature.
In addition, due to its vasodilator activity, it is recommended for cases of memory loss, especially in the elderly, as it improves blood flow.
This wonderful medicinal plant is usually found in the form of pills or tablets, but without a doubt, like most medicinal plants, it is much more effective and healthy in the form of essential oil or tincture (pure extract of the fresh plant), and  even more so if it is an ecological tincture.
