Eucalyptus
At least 450 species are currently known within this genus, and eucalyptus forests dominate the Australian West, where it originated.
It is an arboreal character plant, and can measure up to 100 m.  Eucalyptus leaves have specific characteristics, have an off-white color and are perennial, but their primary characteristic is undoubtedly their peculiar aroma.
Eucalyptus flowers are small and white and their fruits are large and very dark, usually very loaded with seeds.  It is used mainly in paper production because of its rapid growth, which makes it a very profitable tree.  However, they usually worsen the conditions of the land where they are found and make life difficult for other species;  for this reason they are usually planted on land that cannot be exploited agriculturally.  Similarly, in many of the species the large amount of resin they produce is used;  In the medical field, some varieties produce a dark reddish resin used as a healing, tanning and astringent drug.
From the eucalyptus oils, tinctures and gums can also be obtained.  They are scattered all over the world, adapt to various conditions thanks to their long roots.
Although they easily withstand the drier seasons, they are more susceptible to extreme cold and frost.  Eucalyptus oil has many medicinal uses as a decongestant and expectorant in upper respiratory tract infections or inflammations, as well as for various muscular and skeletal conditions.  The oil is found in many commercial syrups and lozenges, and also in steam inhalers, ointments, some mouthwashes and dental preparations.  In veterinary medicine, the oil is used topically for its antibacterial properties.
The oil is also used as an aromatic in soaps and perfumes and as a food and beverage flavoring.  Flu, colds, bronchitis, asthma, cough, angina pectoris: Prepare infusions with its leaves, with a ratio of five grams of leaves per liter of water.  It is recommended to drink about three glasses a day.
For treatments against bronchopneumonia and other conditions of the bronchi it is advisable to cook the leaves of eucalyptus, rosemary and quite mentholated ointment, bring the face closer and directly receive the emanating vapors.
The treatment can also be complemented by applying camphor spirits from the knees to the feet and cover to keep enough heat.
The camphorized brandy is prepared by adding the camphor to the brandy and let it stand for one night.  Sore throat: Prepare ten grams of fresh leaves per half liter of water, boiling.  Use this preparation in gargles.  It also serves to disinfect the mouth.
Bronchitis, cough and pneumonia:
Evaporate eucalyptus leaves in the rooms of the sick.  To carry out these evaporations, three liters of water are boiled, adding one hundred grams of eucalyptus leaves, renewing them when they have lost their aroma.
Chronic Rheumatism:
The hot bath with eucalyptus leaves on the affected part, continuously generates a quick and effective relief.  For those pains caused by varicose veins it is advisable to mix 30 grams of eucalyptus leaves and the same amount of walnut leaves, boil them and then apply the leaves as a plaster on the affected area, this will certainly calm the pain and reduce the pain  inflammation.
Cough:
With a handful of eucalyptus, a handful of llanten and a handful of thyme (remember that a handful is what you take with your fingers).  The herbs are heated in a cup of water with the juice of half a lemon, with peel and pulp, but without seeds.  Let stand, strain, sweeten with honey and be taken when you get up and go to bed.
